MANAGEMENT IN THE CREATIVE ARTS


DURATION: 4 YEARS

The program is delivered in collaboration with the University of Manchester (United Kingdom). Teaching on the program is based on multidisciplinary approach which allows students to examine complex interrelationship of management, economics and creative industries. Students of the program benefit from studying in multi-national groups under the supervision of international faculty and experts from academia, business and government institutions.

All the courses are delivered in English except the classes of Russian language. The staff is truly international granting the opportunity to study in multinational environment and learn from different cultural perspectives.

o The Moscow School of economic and social sciences (MSSES) is already well-known internationally as the center of excellence in social and cultural research. It is a famous and popular Russian-British university, one of the symbols of contemporary European education in Russia.

The programme is both rigorous and innovative, with a distinctive focus on practice, research, business, and cultural history. Students will receive comprehensive exposure to arts and cultural heritage, thus gaining the skills to excel as an arts or heritage manager. Ultimately, they will be able to utilize social responsibility and entrepreneurial strategies in managing creative output, while merging art with business and policy know-how. - Interdisciplinary curriculum

BA program “Management in the Creative Arts” provides an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on imparting knowledge and understanding about the cultural and business environments of creative and cultural industries. The studies will centre around four key themes:

1. Business of the Creative Enterprise,
2. History and Culture,
3. Professional Practice (Visual and Performing Arts Management Practice),
4. Research and Communications Skills.

- Volunteering and internships in leading cultural institutions
The programme has excellent links with the industry, which gives students an opportunity to learn from industry practitioners as well as invaluable opportunities for volunteering and internships in leading cultural institutions and projects in Moscow and other cities. It also includes special practical modules at the end of each academic year: analytical, research and project that involve students in real practical work in research, analytical and project activities under the supervision of the Faculty teachers. This will also include formal placements which, on average, will last around 2-3 weeks.

- Managing creative industries
The bachelors program “Management in the Creative Arts” aims to study all aspects of management in creative industries (high-tech, innovations, art, architecture, music, theater, design). It covers performing and visual arts, museums, galleries, innovation departments of transnational companies.

INTERNSHIPS

Placement occurs in a variety of cultural and art settings, depending on the interests and experiences of the student concerned and offers the possibility to work with different cultural practices and institutions. Placement can take place in the following settings:

- Art institutions
- Museums
- Galleries
- Cultural centers
- Theaters
- Art Studios
- Libraries
- Community centers
- Art and media agencies
- etc.

For the first year practice based experience will deliver through volunteering work in Moscow cultural institutions.

The Faculty of Cultural Management has strong connections with vary cultural institutions in Moscow and many other Russian cities that will cover any students’ interests.

Fieldwork for management in the creative arts’ students means regular classes in Moscow at places like the Tretiakov Gallery, the MMCA and many other cultural institutions, Cultural Centre ZIL, Artplay, Winzawod, design factory Flacon etc. Most courses at Levels 2 and 3 include a fieldwork element, with the opportunity to meet and learn from successful managers, curators and experts in cultural practices and businesses.

Tuition is 3500 USD per semester (there are 8 semesters in 4 years Bachelor’s Program).
