to fill the position of the
Language Assistant
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, which is supporting BBk in the implementation of the project, will be the contracting institution to the Language Assistant.
The Language Assistant will offer translation and interpretation assistance to the project team during the whole duration of the Twinning Light project. In particular, the Language Assistant will provide support to effectively deliver the Twinning Light project’s mandatory results, ensure a good flow of communications and coordinate the different Twinning partners; as well as language support to the Member States experts involved in short-term working missions to Skopje within the project’s framework.
PROJECT BACKGROUND:
The purpose of the project is to support the establishment of the sound and efficient system for the protection of the EU and national financial interests and an effective counterfeit surveillance at the national, EU and international level in line with the Geneva Convention and the EU acquis in accordance with EU best practices. More specifically, the project will contribute to ensure the efficient functioning of the system for the fight against internationally organized crime in the specific area of forgery/counterfeiting of banknotes and coins.
Area of responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the German Project Leader and in cooperation with GIZ project management, the Language and Administrative Assistant will be expected to carry out the following duties:
- Interpret during conferences, workshops, meeting and seminars or other oral conversations (the assistant will be supported by professional interpretation for special tasks, e. g. highly specific technical texts, particular languages, size and duration of workshops etc.) from Macedonian to English and German (if applicable) and vice versa;
- Translate project documents (legal documents, regulations, training material, information material, reports and other written material) from Macedonian to English/German and vice versa;
- Assist the short-term experts in matters related to language problems due to being and working in a foreign country;
- Assist the GIZ in identifying, contracting and monitoring commercial translation and interpretation services;
- Develop and maintain close working contacts and relations with Macedonian officials involved in the Twinning Project, the Project Leaders from German and Macedonian side, the short-term experts and involved organisations and the GIZ project and financial management;
- Support the project team in organisational, logistical and technical matters, especially with organising conferences, training sessions, workshops, meetings, expert missions, Steering Committee Meetings and study visits;
- General support of the project in terms of administrative assistance, office management, correspondence, record keeping and filing, bookkeeping and accounting;
- Support the preparation of Mission Certificates;
- Help arrange contacts or meetings, attend meetings and draft and disseminate minutes;
- Assistance in monitoring and reporting tasks;
- Assistance in the evaluation of training activities and the project's progress;
- Support the short-term experts in organisational and technical matters, including assistance to solve travel, accommodation and any related problems;
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements to candidates:
- University degree, preferably in the field of Translation and Interpreting or Economics, Finance, Law or at least three years of professional experience in the relevant field/sector;
- At least three years of working experience in translation and/ or interpretation activities or in another relevant field/sector; experience with simultaneous interpretation would be an asset;
- Fluency in Macedonian and English languages (both oral and written); knowledge of German language would be an asset;
- Ability and willingness to familiarise quickly with financial markets, economics and banking terminology in Macedonian/English and, if applicable German languages;
- Preferably knowledge of EU structures and terminology;
- Excellent knowledge of office applications (e.g. MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word and MS Power Point, etc.) and internet browsers;
- Previous working experience in international projects or EU projects (preferably Twinning) or international organisations would be an advantage;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations and to work in a team;
- Organisational and analytical skills and initiative;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Flexibility to travel within the country and Europe.
The applicant may not be (or have been in the past 6 months) a civil servant or agent of the beneficiary administration nor be on leave from the beneficiary administration to take up the position.
Employment conditions:
Contract type: consultancy service contract (for service provider is not granted any paid leave days or / and sick leave).
Part-time position; up to 90 hours/per month (hours in the month will vary depending on the workload)
Duration of the project: 8 months
